Transheldrake
Fare Analysis and Ticketing Studies

Transheldrake has been involved in fare analysis and ticket equipment studies and introduction in several instances in Europe. This time has seen the development of the electronic ticket machine industry, from fixed manual printing machines. Particular studies and projects that Transheldrake was responsible for or played a major role in are:

Coras Iompair Eireann: Provincial Fare Specification

This project developed a new methodology to calculate provincial fares using a unitised mileage system and a ready reckoner. The need for this system was brought about by the frequent fare increases necessary to keep up with inflation. In addition the 5 band Almex ticket machine was introduced to replace the existing Setright and Timms equipment. The entire provincial fare structure was changed over to this system in 1976.

Coras Iompair Eireann: Fare Evasion Measures Study, Dublin City Services

This study analysed methods used in the UK to control fare evasion. A system was designed in conjunction with the Company’s attorneys and the company rule book altered to accommodate these measures in 1985.

Coras Iompair Eireann: Interlink Fare Structure and Ticketing System

This scheme developed a new fare structure for the Expressway and Interlink Services. Based on the ready reckoner system for ease of use. A new type of ticket was developed with NCR system for multiple sections, yet able to be issued by an Almex machine. This was all designed to the final artwork stage by Transheldrake

Isle of Wight County Council: Islander Card Concessionary Fares Scheme

This scheme was developed from a small one company bus only scheme to embrace all island bus companies and the BR rail line on the island. It also covered disabled persons as well as senior citzens. The negotiations and establishment of a pass and survey to moniter the usage was setup and implemented by future Transheldrake staff.

Cowes Express: Fare Policy & Ticketing System

In establishing Cowes Express as a transolent operater the responsibility of developing and implementing a fare policy with a ticketing system was Mr Bremners. A complete system of single and return, weekly, monthly and evening tickets was designed. The system used 8 band Almex machines and was designed to easily convert to an electronic system.

Cowes Express: Interchangable ticketing with British Rail Network South East

Mr Bremner negotiated and established a through ticket system from Cowes to London with British Rail, Network South East. This involved a joint fare structure and accounting system, as well as adaption of the BR ticket system to accommodate the Cowes Express ticket.
